Title: A GAME OF FAILURE
Baseball is the biggest confidence destroying sport there is. Where else in sports can you fail seven out of ten times and still be considered one of the greats to play the game? The stigma of a statistics-based judgement to determine who is a successful player is not fully true, especially at a young age. There are a lot of good things that can happen at the plate without getting a hit. A hard-hit ball at someone or advancing a runner, a 7+ pitch at bat (QAB) are somethings that are valuable for players to learn.
There will be people who may statically perform better but it does not mean they are better at the job. As a coach it is our duty to best prepare the hitters to fail but to do it successfully. Failing successfully is an oxymoron at its finest, however, if you want to have a long and enjoyable baseball career you must accept a lot of failure. Let’s strive to bring positive encouragement when it’s due and continue to build the youth of America’s greatest game.
